Airbus set to tour Asia and Australia with their newly certified wide-body A350-1000
Airbus has embarked on a three week long demonstration tour with their newly inducted wide-body Airbus A350-1000 to Asia, specifically the Middle East and Asia Pacific. The tour is taking place just weeks before the aircraft type is set to be delivered to launch customer Qatar airways.
The aircraft in use will be MSN065 is one of three cabin-equipped test aircraft, which is configured with 40 business-class, 36 premium-economy and 219 economy-class seats. The aircraft is in Airbus A350-1000 colours for the tour.
The 12 destination tour includes two destinations from the Middle East, its launch customer’s hub Doha, Qatar, and Muscat, Oman.
The rest of the tour shifts to the Asia Pacific region and will visit the cities of Hong Kong, Seoul, Taipei, Hanoi, Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney, Auckland, Tokyo and Manila.
The visit to Singapore is coinciding with the Singapore airshow where the A350 will be on static display from 6th-8th February.
Hong Kong, Tokyo and Seoul will also be key visits, being the hub cities of -1000 customers Cathay Pacific(20 orders), Japan Airlines (13 orders) and Asiana (10 orders).
Airbus claims that the -1000 has 95% commonality with the -900 as well as the same type rating. Differences include a stretched fuselage to accommodate 40 additional passengers(in typical 3 class configuration), modified wing and new trailing edge as well as a triple bogey (six wheel) main landing gear system and the new Rolls Royce Trent XWB-97 engines capable of delivering 97,000 lbs of thrust, the highest thrust engine Rolls Royce has ever certified.
Airbus has received a total of 169 orders till date and their visits could increase that number further up.
